Structure of this wiki

From Second Renaissance

Most pages will belong to one of the primary Categories of this wiki.

Structure of Pages

A good basic format for most pages is something like this — modify to what makes best sense in context:

  • Description or explanation (of the concept/person/etc and relationship to 2R)
    • Shared authorship, anyone can offer improvements
  • Commentary
    • People's perspectives; support; critique; links to related materials
    • Ideally, every bit is labelled with the contributor username/timestamp "signature" (in Edit source, append ~~~~) — however if this is not easy then at least write your name and date.
  • Emergent questions
    • The point here is to ask, to pose the questions that engage people and will prompt further widening of the wiki as a whole.
    • The questions can also be about any assumptions that lie behind the material.

Style

It's important for the coherence of a body of knowledge like a wiki to be reasonably consistent, unless there are pressing reasons otherwise. This helps readers and contributors to go through the site smoothly, without being taken aback by "why is that inconsistently like that?" questions, which tend to interrupt the flow of seeking or using information.

So I'm proposing a Style guide, and invite people to comment wherever there is significant disagreement, so we can come to an agreed position.

Commentary

This is not just for illustration, but a serious point: what References are seen to be relevant is a matter of opinion, so I'd like to see these as part of the commentary, rather than an anonymous section. Asimong (talk) 07:35, 31 May 2024 (UTC)

Emergent questions

  • How does this structure relate to, or differ from, basic established ideas for metadata such as formulated by DCMI?
  • How do we agree more categories? See Proposed categories
